Going BATS for Ice Cream

Had breakfast, packed our sack lunches and loaded up our bikes for another van shuttle to the ride start. Today we rode through the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest on BATS -- Boulder Junction Area Trail System. Gray sky and cool weather made for a perfect cycling day.

Our Natural Helper at work -- adjusting Cindy's brakes

Cindy gets the "most colorful" rider award today

The rolling grade of the trail allows us to often get a good run down a hill that will take us up the other side with little to no pedaling -- most of the time!

Beautiful riding through the forest

I rode ahead to try to get a photo of each rider on their bikes and was successful except for two that I missed as my camera was not fast enough to catch them on the way downhill. I still have a chance today of catching Laurie and Marty.

Your test is -- can you recall each one's name -- and maybe even their favorite thing?

We stopped to walk (or ride for a few) a path for an overview of the lake.

Three islands in the middle of the lake.

And AT LAST -- it was time for the ice cream store ;'-).

You want a small single, a small single with an extra scoop, a generous single or a generous single with an extra scoop?

Any place is a good place to sit if you have ice cream.

Nancy (No ice breakers) and Susan (science) enjoy their choices of ice cream.

We arrived back at the support vehicles and had to have that next group picture before calling it a day.

Aren't we a colorful and handsome lot!

Tonight was the only night we were on our own for dinner. Small groups found their choice of places to dine. Susan and I joined the "fantastic funny four" at Honey Bear where Mary Beth (one of our leaders) was our waitress. We felt like we were in our home town as she remembered each of our names and gave us special attention. Actually, even better than our home town for us as that does not even happen there.

Unfortunately this was a poor photo and I will try to get someone else to send me a better one and repost later.

WOW!!! I am now caught up here. Yahoo. We have one more day with this fine group of cyclists and staff and then it will (most likely) be thought farewells. That ice breaker sure helped bond this gang. Thanks Kathleen.
