MILLERSYLVANIA STATE PARK WITH SOTF

(I had this whole page written and ready to post. Somehow I must have deleted the offline post and simply lost it all. Fortunately it was the shorter of the two pages I had to post!).

So let me try this again. Those of you who read my blogs may recall that we were here at Millersylvania this past June. On that campout we had every day of rain! If you are interested in seeing that one — go here… https://adventureswithnancyg.blogspot.com/2022/06/rainy-weekend-in-millersylvania.html

This weekend with the “Sisters” has been polar opposite of the weather we had in June — Every day had glorious sun, and it was a bit hot on one or two of the days. But still — glorious.

Susan and I arrived a day before the event would begin, and got ourselves set up at our site, took a little walk around our immediate area. Think I found Geronimo…

We took a little bike ride around the campground and found (too many) unpaved trails. Our friend Vickie has told us that this is the only place she has ever gotten lost when hiking along trails. It is indeed a network of trails, some rather lumpy and bumpy with big tree roots and a few boulders (the parts I don’t like riding on, over or around). At least now there are maps at everyone trail junction that are a help.

It does trick you into thinking this will be an easy, nice bike ride as we start out on smooth pathway. But — it changes along the way.

When we had to make a U turn about, Susan said we were not lost — we were misdirected. I said we misdirected ourselves.

Riding on a somewhat narrow boardwalk with large gaps at times was not of interest to me.

Of course Susan found it no problem.

There were some fine views that made interesting stops.

We reached the beach and were cheered to find this opportunity.

The Snack Shack will close for the season after this weekend, and we were in time for our earned ice cream reward.

We think they are perhaps trying to use up their ice cream supply! These scoops were HUGE. We both said that eating these ice cream cones took ‘skill’.

By the time we had finished our ride we felt like we had ridden for hours and hours on a tour. Our odometers showed that we had gone all of 3.5 miles! Those unpaved trails are exhausting.
