Backyard Airport

The idea of having an airport nearly in your backyard has NOT been appealing to us. However, the less than ten minute drive for Susan to drop me off for my 6:00 a.m. flight to Saint Louis was, shall we say, oh so convenient.

Not having used this airport yet, I was (as I was born to do) worrying about the logistics of everything. All went smoothly, and whether it was the early morning flight or the newness of the airport, there were NO lines anywhere (except the coffee line). A breeze.
The lounge is very nice.

The coffee/tea/crumpet part was at the end of the liquor bar.

A nice relaxing area to enjoy your treat

A fireplace if you are there in a cold month.

The flight departed on time and we were soon above cloudy Seattle in search of some sun.

And in three short hours we were approaching Denver, where I would get a second flight to STL. The worry was the weather forecast for STL — storms, flooding (flood gates in downtown being closed for rising river), tornadoes (Susan had given me tips and training of what to do in the event of a tornado — drop flat to the ground and hold tight onto something like the stop sight post. She all but demonstrated this for me in front of the airport departure door).

I had almost a three hour layover so took my daily walk up and down the concourse of my loading gate. That long walk called for a stop at the chocolate store. ;’-)

Johnny and Phyllis would pick me up at the STL airport for the next legs of my trip: a few nights with the two of them; seven days on the KATY TRAIL, biking 5 of those days; a few more nights with Johnny & Phyllis before heading home.
