INTO JUNE 2022 — START ON WHIDBEY

My bike is fixed and I was able to use Susan’s bike while work was being done on it. It is all better now ;’-).

I finished up May with a ride near home and stopped for just a couple of photos.

Last year about this time, Vickie hosted Rainbow Riders for a glorious weekend together and about 18 of us enjoyed camping on her property, a group bike ride, a beach walk, socializing and extremely good time together. Vickie invited us again this year and though there were only 7 of us this time, it was just as much fun.  We got to Whidbey on Friday with just a sprinkling of light rain, and our ride on Saturday was with glorious weather on a perfect route. Five of the seven of us drove down to Maxwelton Beach to begin our adventure.

The Great Outdoors…

Artistic bench…

As we neared the town of Langley we discovered a little rodeo happening and stopped to enjoy some barrel racing at the County Fairgrounds.

I liked the Fiddle Faddle Farm name ;’-).

Barrel Racing for real…

Back on our bikes to move on to Langley and a brief stop for a true photo op…

Not just for me though as we all got into the photo to fly away.

Movin’ on down the road we enjoyed meadows, farms, light traffic and winding roads with only mild periodic climbing. It’s difficult to stop for photos when riding with a group, and I am sorry I did not make the opportunity to do so.

Here we are…

We made one more stop to peruse the wares at the roadside farm stand.

With 20 miles for the day, this made for Susan’s longest ride since her ankle episode. She had been working up to it but her longest before today was about 8 miles. Great progress, but she was bushed and a little sore in the ankle at the finish. So we relaxed and napped while the others drove into town for the art walk in Langley.

We ended our great day and I liked this ride so very much that I want to do it again as soon as the time for us and others is available. Hopefully sometime this fall. We thank Vickie for sharing her home with us and say our goodbyes for now.

We included goodbyes to the “Chain Tree” which blooms only in even years. It is beautiful.

  1. It was great to see you & Susan. I’ll definitely join you on the fall trip, but hope to be a ride with you before that. XO
