RRs Memorial Weekend on Whidbey

It has been about a year and a half that the pandemic kept us from gathering together. For this Memorial Day weekend, Vickie invited all who were fully vaccinated to come spend the weekend on Whidbey Island at her home.

She had some “bling” ready for each of us.

There were about 16 Rainbows that came to enjoy all or part of the fantastic weekend weather for our outing. A couple arrived on Friday, many arrived on Saturday and most spent time through Sunday for camping, hiking, biking, dog walking, eating, laughing and chatting non-stop. We were Happy Campers.

Susan and I parked our RV in Vickie’s driveway.

Others pitched tents in the back yard.

We, as a group, have been together for well over 20 years now, so it is more of a family gathering and we do so love getting together. Vickie put the kettle on for soup for our dinner on Saturday and all others brought something to accompany it. Shelly, Lizette and Maridee prepared breakfast for Sunday and, again there were plenty of choices added for sides.

There was an extreme low tide for this weekend, and on Saturday afternoon we embarked on a beach hike that included careful maneuvering over rocks and some slippery seaweed, tide pool hunting, and walking on a sandy beach.

On Sunday morning we relaxed with breakfast around camp before heading out for some bike riding.

We made it to this park before Kristin determined that repeatedly stopping to pump up her rear tire was not going to work!

I was sure that the tire changer did not suffer malnutrion. Open wide Kristin…

Our “guest”, Island Nancy as we call her, led us on the ride and gives information about hills and turns coming up.

The dog walkers met us here before taking their pets on the trail in the park.

Becky thought it a good idea to entertain some of us — or maybe challenge us to practice some balancing.

Leaving Kristin well equipped to ably finish her task and to get a lift home with the dog walkers, the riders took off for the return trip. We stopped at two (unstaffed) farm stands. Maridee found some Bok Choy to purchase at the first stand…

Susan purchased jam and I got a bar of soap at the second stand. So, we contributed a bit to some local businesses during our visit on Whidbey.

We so enjoyed ourselves, and Vickie so enjoy hosting us, that she has determined this could be an annual event. We all said a resounding YES to the idea. Maybe there will be a few others that can join us next year. Being together after such a year as 2020 makes us feel oh so good. We each and all planned the trip very well and missed any traffic that would definitely be a factor without such good planning ;’-).

These photos I have posted are a collection of my own plus some that others who took pictures on our outings, and they said it was fine for me to add them to my own photos for the blog.
