A BOAT RIDE IN VERMONT

Early breakfast, early shuttle to Burlington, early check in to the Hampton Hotel, and we were ready for some exploring of the town.

First the Market Place of Church Street. As we strolled past the cafes, shops and kiosks I was walking on memory lane. It brought memories of doing this exact thing in Denmark oh so many years ago with my family. At the time we had not had the experience, before this, of walking and shopping on the street that did not allow any motor vehicles. Just like Church Street Market Place here in Burlington Vermont.

No wonder I had those memories ...

This could possibly have been the same year, or close to, that I was walking the Stroget (Stroya is as close to the pronunciation I can come) in Denmark. Church street is several blocks long and we enjoyed lunch at an outdoor cafe (forgot to have photo taken), AND I found a sock shop ;’-)))

After plenty of time in the Market Place we strolled on down to the Waterfront of Lake Champlain.

What a beautiful sunny day we had. I walked down to the Local Motion bike rental shop and got all the necessary information for us to rent a bike and take the path along the lake. Depending on which day has the better weather, we will be riding for at least a bit here in Burlington.

Now we had more time for something. What? We wondered. Just as we were wondering, and in the nick of time for departure, we spotted the boat. “Spirit of Ethan Allen III”. A boat ride was just the ticket for a sunny day on the Lake.

Kathy and Linda settled right in to get comfortable for the hour and a half tour. Brenda was strolling the decks.

Appalachian Mountains offered themselves for a view.

Can you see the Indian Chief’s face in the rocky cliff side?

A view of Burlington from the middle of Lake Champlain.

We thought our boat tour lasted just the right amount of time as we headed back to shore.

The narration filled us with information, and a few facts about Lake Champlain:

The largest freshwater lake in the US after the five Great Lakes.
The only lake that flows in a northerly direction.
It is 12.2 miles wide, 120 miles long and 427 feet deep at the deepest point.
It encompasses Vermont, New York, and the Province of Quebec.
It is not a landlocked lake as you can get to the Atlantic Ocean via a canal that connects to St. Lawrence River.
“Champ” is the lake’s friendly monster. You know like Loch Ness ;’-0.
