Lake Champlain

This was our first riding day and it took us to the Lake Champlain Bikeway. We were shuttled back through the border crossing (bring your passport) to Vermont to the ride start — again about an hour and a half drive. It was a delightful route on lightly trafficked country roads and along Lake Champlain. We started our journey in the rain and each donned our rain gear. “It’s only water” said Steven our organizer. And he was right. Rain in warm weather is easy, at least if it does not rain all day!!! And it didn’t. In about four miles we were stripping off rain coats in the warmth of the day. It remained cloudy all day but was a delightful day for riding.

Today’s post will basically be a photo journal of our delightful time in Vermont. A difficult task for me is to cull the photos that I want to post. This entry contains a lot of photos — and that is after culling!!

Sean got our bikes ready for travel with two “helpers”.

We were given our map and cue sheet so we could ride at our own pace.

One of the stops Linda and Brenda and I made was to enjoy this “healthy’ bridge, and a visit to the Railroad Museum across the road from it.

I think this is the Mississqua River (need to check on that)...

We had nice country scenes as we made our way to our lunch stop.

Along the Lake Champlain Bikeway...

...to lunch.

We had more riding after lunch as we had reached our half way mark. The next leg took us to a different part of the Lake at the tip of a peninsula.

I could not resist this photo as it depicts the simple pleasures of cycling...

More lake from a different angle.

I find the bark of this tree so very interesting that I took several photos of it...

And to prove we are in Vermont I took the next two photos...

We have lots of Blue Heron near home, and I have lots of photos of them. But I don’t have a photo of one on Lake Champlain ;’-) Until now.

Our ride ended at a bar. As Brenda went exploring across the way, we three enjoyed the end of the ride with a ginger ale!

Brenda did join us on the deck for a more adult beverage and we re-lived a few moments of our day.

  1. Love the scenery here...looks like other than a few raindrops you've had a wonderful ride so far. Glad Linda is representing BIKES club! Have fun!
